As your student tenancy comes to an end, it’s time to start thinking about cleaning your property. While a thorough clean is necessary, there's no need to spend a lot on cleaning products. In fact, you probably already have many useful items at home.
Here are 6 easy cleaning hacks for you to try:
- Baking soda is highly versatile and works well as a surface cleaner as well as a being a gentle abrasive for sinks, countertops, and oven tops. Simply sprinkle it on a damp cloth or sponge, scrub the surface, and rinse well.
- Vinegar is excellent for removing hard water stains on faucets, showerheads, and glass surfaces. All you need to do is soak a cloth or paper towel in vinegar, wrap it around the stained area, and let it sit for a few hours. Then, scrub gently and rinse. Additionally, pouring vinegar down the sink along with some baking soda can help clear the drains.
- Lemon juice is a natural deodoriser, perfect for eliminating odours from cutting boards, garbage disposals, and microwaves. Simply squeeze lemon juice onto the surface, let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse with water.
- Salt is a fantastic abrasive for cleaning cast iron pans. Simply sprinkle salt on the pan, scrub with a damp cloth or sponge to remove stuck-on food, and rinse with water.
- Instead of using paper towels, clean glass surfaces like windows and mirrors with newspaper. Spray a homemade glass cleaner or diluted vinegar on the surface, wipe with crumpled newspaper, and enjoy streak-free results.
- Toothpaste is effective for polishing tarnished silverware. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a soft cloth, gently rub it onto the silver, rinse with water, and dry with a clean cloth.
Remember, these hacks are for specific cleaning tasks and surfaces. Always test them in inconspicuous areas first and use caution to avoid damaging delicate surfaces.
